Be good, Look good, Feel good.
I don't know who I stole that phrase from or how I came up with it, but it used to be my mantra for life. As cheesy as that sounds, it really worked. When I was in my final year in uni before I let myself go a bit, I was in the best shape of my life, I was confident and outgoing, and most importantly I loved it.
So I thought, now that I'm making some big changes again, why not revive the old phrase and try and live by it again? So far so good. I've been making sure I eat well, but still allowing myself the odd treat so I don't go insane. I've been making sure I look my best everyday by trying to dress immaculately and being clean shaven and combed of hair. Whether it works or not, that's not for me to decide!
What has been working, and I mean REALLY working, is working out very regularly. I've not missed a single workout in the last 6 weeks. My workout schedule is based mainly around my work. Therefore when I'm working 8-4 I will visit the gym Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday at lunchtime and do a combination of cardio (fairly intense) and some big weights or bodyweight stuff. When I'm working 9-5 I visit the gym everyday. Cardio for 30 minutes on Monday, Wednesday, Friday mornings and the big weights and bodyweight stuff on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday at lunchtime. And it's damn addictive. Everytime I wake up with DOMS (I have it right now), it puts a smile on my face. At least until I try to stand up!
Tuesday was my best workout so far. My gym has a habit of getting full of meatheads who hog the racks and barbells whilst doing shoulder shrugs or bicep curls (really) so when I get the chance to do squats and deadlifts, I don't miss out. And Tuesday I really didn't miss out. I did attempt SL 5x5 last year and got quite far before I lost motivation so I was pretty determined to pick up where I left off on the big lifts. And on Tuesday I deadlifted 90kg and squatted 80kg. Boom.
One of the first (and achievable) goals I set for myself when I changed my lifestyle back in January was to be able to squat my own bodyweight. I am now one workout away from attempting it. Another goal was to do a pull up. Today I think I might get there.
I'll let you know how it goes.

Post the 1st: The Beginning
"And when he gets to heaven, to St. Peter he will tell,
One more soldier reporting sir, I've spent my time in hell."
Enjoy that quote? Now that we've got that out of the way, I'll explain it has absolutely nothing to do with this blog. This blog is about my journey to becoming the fittest person I can be!
Bit of explanation about me: My name is Sean and I'm 25. I'm currently on the umpteenth attempt in the last 5/6 years to get in shape and stay in shape. My weight, body shape and health have fluctuated massively and the results have been varied from being all the way down to 12st6lb in 2010 to nearly 15st a few months ago. I've never been happy with my body shape so much so that I can't actually remember the last time I took my top off in public without feeling uncomfortable.
This time, I want it to be different. I'm not in this alone. I have an amazing partner who is also unndergoing a massive diet and exercise change with me, I couldn't do this without her. I also am an absolute addict to a wonderful place called Fitocracy, which is probably how most of you reading have found this blog!
So far, my journey has started fantastically. I started working out properly about 5 weeks ago and my partner and I started doing the Slimming World diet about 3 weeks after that. Since then I've lost 7lb (!!!) and for the first time in my life I have biceps. ACTUAL BICEPS!
So finally, thanks for joining me on this journey. For every post on here I will put a picture of my progress so far. Here is the first:
